FAQ:

Q1: How do I get my child on school transport?

A1: When your child is accepted at Oasis Special School, you will be invited for an orientation. At orientation, you complete a form stating that you would like to place your child on the waiting list for transport. School transport is offered on a first-come, first-serve basis. This means your child’s name will be put on the bottom of the waiting list.

Q2: How long is the waiting list for transport?

A2: When your child is admitted, you will be at the bottom of the waiting list, i.e. there will be +- 150 learners above your child on the waiting list. At the end of each year, there are roughly 30 – 45 learners that are done with their schooling career. Those learners will no longer make use of transport for the next academic year and therefore the first 30 – 45 names on the waiting list, will then be offered school transport.

Q3: How will my child get to school, if there is no school transport available?

A3: It is the parent’s responsibility to bring and collect their child from school each day. The parent may engage with private service providers. Should a private scholar transport service collect your child – you must inform the school of this arrangement in writing.

Q4: If my child is on the school bus, how much is transport fees?

A4: Transport fees are R5250 per year. Parents may pay in 10 instalments. This equates to R525 per month for 10 months. This fee amount is correct for the 2024 school year. Due to the exponential increase in diesel prices, as well as cost of maintenance for the busses, transport fees can increase between 10 – 15% annually.

Q5: Can I apply for a fee exemption for transport?

A5: No fee exceptions are available for school transport. Failure to pay for school transport, will result in your child’s spot being given to another learner from the transport waiting list.
